Loved the brown so much I just bought the black
These ... extremely comfortable and seem very well made. Although the zipper doesn't go all the way to the sole, I don't have trouble getting my feet in. Comfy after a day or two
I have eyed this ... past 2 years after retiring a no longer produced pair of Timberlands. I decided last week to go ahead and order ... needed a decent looking rain/snow ... wouldn't look sloppy if I wore ... all day in the office. I ordered a 9.5 and a 10 in black. One of the major reasons I ordered the ... noticed the sole was nice and wide at the ball of the foot. (My feet are wide and tend to swell slightly) I generally have 12-13 hour days and I need to be comfortable and stylish even when the weather is nasty. Like many other reviewers' comments, getting your foot into the ... first time can be a challenge, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. There is no give in the opening because the zipper does not go as low as most other ... also noticed that the left ... dug into my ankle (which has been slightly swollen from a recent sprain) in the size 9.5 and the 10. I kept the 10 because the digging was not as pronounced. I like the extra cushioning in the sole. This past weekend, I wore my ankle brace with the ... entire day (shopping) I had no pain, swelling, or tightness. As an added bonus, because of the extra bulk of the ankle brace, the left ... no longer digs into my ankle. I wore ... rain today and my feet were warm and dry. I also like the fact that even though the ... lined my feet were not overheated. As far as sizing goes there is no reason to worry about width in this ... unless your feet are narrow. The only difference in the size 9.5 and 10 is the size 10 is slightly longer providing additional space for my toes. Otherwise the 9.5 and the 10 seemed to fit exactly the same.

Cute ... little Troublesome
I found ... other places for full price and just couldn't bear to spend that much. When I found ... discounted here, I was thrilled. The ... definitely cute (cherry brown--I thought the black might look a little too "biker chick" for ... style). I did immediately notice how narrow the calves on ... do not have the tiniest calves in the world, ... am a pretty petite person (5'2", about 123 pounds). Well, I folded the pants in and wore ... out and it is not very comfortable. There is such little space in there that the cuff of the jean rubs uncomfortably against ... ankles. I did get compliments already on ... first day of wearing ... have decided to keep ... other trouble is that because ... fit so tight on the calf, it is a careful process to zip ... actually cut ... finger on the zipper pull a little from readjusting ... so many times this morning (I think the ... should come with a slightly bigger zipper pull). Keepin'' my other winter ...

Super comfy footbed and arch support; size description is wrong.
These ... have a very comfy footbed, especially great built in arch support (I've got super flat feet and always searching for shoes with decent arch support). The foot opening is somewhat narrow so it takes a bit more effort to put my feet in the shoes, but I'm hoping that with time, the leather will soften up and make it easier to put ... There is just enough room to tuck my jeans in, and I've got thin calves, so if you have wide calves, this ... may not work. Plus, the shaft size listed is INCORRECT! I thought I was getting a taller ... It's really 13 inches, coming halfway up the calf, and NOT 15. The leather is a nice darker brown with hint of red. These shoes are a keeper.

It is so hard to find a ... can handle the elements, fits well, is comfortable and CUTE - this is it!

You NEED these ... These are maybe the only ... need for the season! I have worn these ... 3 miles walks with my dogs and then wore with leggings and a wrap dress the same day! ... wipe clean easily after muddy romps around the yard. ... look so cute with ... leg jeans over the ... skinny leg jeans tucked in. ... so functional and versatile. Cannot go wrong with these ... all. So comfortable you can wear the whole day long. I have a wide foot and had no problems with the fit at all. True to size.

Loved the brown so much I just bought the blackThese ... extremely comfortable and seem very well made. Although the zipper doesn't go all the way to the sole, I don't have trouble getting my feet in. I wear size 11, medium width --and these shoes are really comfortable in every dimension. I have average calves and could maybe fit leggings, but nothing thicker, underneath (have been wearing with tights + socks to protect the tights from the top of the ... comparison, I am returning some Teva Montecito ... because ... fit but are narrow in the sole and have a wider calf than the Merrells.) The Merrell Tetra has a nice wide but not clunky foot that balances out the rest of ... your body (great for anyone whose style includes wide leg or ... leg pants; you know the balance I'm talking about!) ... look great with skirts; fine under pants. Only detraction is that ... scuff really easily -- I've never had leather shoes with leather this soft. It's waterproof, but scuffs. I love ... so much I'm just going to figure out a way to buff out the scuffs!

Love ... I just bought ... must say that I am very pleased with my purchase. ... durable and very fashionable. I needed rain and snow ... didn't want clunky rubber looking ... so I thought ... might be the perfect alternative. ... feel warm and snug yet ... don't look like your standard rain ... One note though, I am a petite girl with average size calves and ... fit perfect with not much extra room. I think because ... not tall ... come up mid calf or to the thickest part of your calf so if you have big calves, ... not fit you. The whole shoe is comforable and fits me pretty snug so you might be able to fit skinny jeans in ... not anything else.

Comfy after a day or twoI have eyed this ... past 2 years after retiring a no longer produced pair of Timberlands.

Cute ... little Troublesome I found ... other places for full price and just couldn't bear to spend that much. I can wear ... comfortably with "jeggings" and leggings tucked in, ... wanted to make sure I could wear ... least ... straight leg jeans tucked in--considering the books were still so price, I wanted versatility for what pants I could wear ... Again, like others say, the ... scuffs easily, like immediately as soon as I put ... on...but it looks natural. Lastly, I didn't ... much trouble pulling on the ... do ... wiggle your foot for a while and push hard, ... foot went in after only a little effort. So, overall, I give ... 3.5 or 4....mainly due to the style, ... very cute, ... narrowness of the ... shaft just disappoints me so much.

Keepin'' my other winter ... I saw ... someone and had to get ... true to fit. I meausred my foot and went back and forth on whether to get the 9 or 9.5. I went with the 9. The opening is very snug. It was a stuggle to get my foot in there. After a couple of wears its much easier and the ... breaking in very nicely. I can even wear my wool socks with ... calf area on the ... still too large for my calves, even when I tuck in jeans, they're too large. ... good pair of stylish ... looking at the construction of ... can see that after a lot of use, ... start to break down. The sole has a very small layer of plastic and will wear through quickly. I'm still holdin' on to ... large and in charge winter ... snowy and very cold days.

Beautiful ... not for the larger calf So I thought I would give these a try. ... beautiful leather and the styling is really great. Unfortunately for me, ... had to go back because I have a full calf and ... just too tight for me to wear comfortably. ... may stretch because the real leather will probably stretch ... don't have that kind of time because I wanted a comfortable ... take with me to Ireland in a couple weeks. If you have an average calf size and can wear regular calf height ... get ... really beautiful and comfortable just not for me.

Cute ... little chunky ... were cute, ... toe box was a little too wide for the more feminine look I was going for. ... were also a little short for tall ... Ordered a full size larger than I wear in flats without socks and ... fit well with a little extra room for inserts or thick socks. Also fit my calves just fine (I have huge calves). Have other cute shoes to wear with casual so I returned ... Merrell Spire Peaks which are a little dressier for the skirts I needed a tall ...

Not a great fitVery cute ... very difficult to get on not a wide enough opening as others have described, even with thin socks. These will be going back.

Love these boots!
I wore these boots to work (10+ hours) as soon as I got them and they were hands down the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. They felt broke in, like I'd had them for years. I'm so in love with these ... plan on wearing them all winter with skirts and skinnies. LOVE LOVE LOVE them!

Riding boots
I am wearing my new Timberland Riding boots today and love them. They were a little tight this AM but as the day goes on they are already stretching out over my foot. I like the adjustable buckle at the top of the calf so I can wear jeans tucked in or have them tighter for wearing only tights. They will scuff a little but I like the worn look.

Great quality, wish it fit TTS
I usually wear a size 7 so I ordered these in 7.5 hoping that I could wear them with thicker socks. The boots were beautiful. The suede didn't bother me, as I was focused on the simplicity of the style, shaft fit, arch support, and practical tread. Unfortunately, the toe box was simply too narrow for my relatively wide feet. I could have worn them with tights, but not medium or thick socks. Returning.

The medium width heel ran a bit wide, the toe box, not a lot of height, but that being said - I normally take a size 11, and ordered these in that same size. I tried them on immediately, and will be able to wear with a medium weight wool sock. They definitely don't run short; I think they're true to size. They're a little stiff around the ankles. The slouch on the calf is fine - can accommodate more than a skinny jean - which is nice (and my calves aren't all that tiny). Will look great with a skirt. I ordered the dark brown, and am glad I opted for that color rather than black, as they look far more expensive than they were. If they break in the way I think they will, I'll update these to a 5 star.

Nice ...
The boots fit great, a little narrow though. The leather is nice, but the suede could have been better. They do slouch a little in the calf area. Also the ... looks like its been around, like people have been trying them on. Plus they were placed in the box poorly, could have made it more sturdy. But the price was good, so I purchased. Again nice ...

great shoe
the best thing about the shoes is that they do not look like they're timberland boots, but they still have the great grip at the bottom that I would see in any other tim ... am very prone to slipping and falling with icy sidewalks so hopefully when the snow sneeks in this winter this will be my go to shoe. my only complaint this far is the calf is a little tight on me, but it still fits...

boots
Really like the boots, but wish they were tighter around the calf. The buckle on the top can be adjusted, but then it looks all "bunchy" and the end flaps out (so I glued the end down with super glue!!)...

I really wanted to like these, but...
These boots were just too tight. Not so much that I could've gone up a half size, but the top of the boots on my feet seemed to be made for someone with a lower arch, I guess. I also didn't like that the suede part made the boots more slouchy/loose than I would have liked. About the Sizing. . .
This is for any of you out there wondering about which size to get. Warning: sizes sell out fast so you may want to order 2 and send one back! After trying many pairs on, here it is: If you are between half sizes the Frye website actually tells you to order a size down. Instead, I chose to follow the reviews I read all over that said to order a size up on this style. I usually wear a size 8.5 & sometimes a 9 in running shoes, so I ordered a 9. It would have worked IF I wanted to wear thick socks (like hiking socks), however the calf was a lot larger too (my calf size is 12.5 inches) and they didn't look right (the two different buckles can be adjusted to smaller/larger but on the smallest hole they look really wrinkled/weird). The actual measurement difference between sizes is only a few centimeters but it is amazing how much of a difference it makes. Luckily, there were still 8.5's left and those were perfect for me. I like the feel of a knee high sock with them and most of those type of socks are pretty thin. As far as comfort with a thin sock they are perfectly comfortable right from the start. Also, the leather in the foot area will stretch slightly. The Frye site also says that heel slippage is normal and will stop after awhile. It hasn't bothered me. I have a flat foot so they are so easy to put on but someone with a high arch might have a harder time. As far as the calf circumference- they could be even a little smaller for me- but they look fine with skinny jeans and okay with skirts. With a small calf, they don't really slouch unless you push them down. The quality is beautiful (although I had to send back one flawed pair in the process). They sole can be resoled in the future so I know I will have them for many years to come. I wish Piperlime had the Frye Leather Conditioners. I get compliments every time I wear them. And that is the end of the longest review ever.

Veronica Slouch
I love these boots! I had to order the wide calf, but they are fantastic. They go with everything! It did take about a week to break the heel in, (got blisters on the back of my heel/achilles area) but once they broke in they're perfect! I wish they had a little more traction, the soles look like they'd be less slippery, but living in an area with snowy winters, these boots slip more than I'd like. Overall, a great ...

buy these boots
My husband bought me these boots 6 years ago in the slate. They are probably my favorite pair of boots and I have many, many pairs of boots. They look great with everything!! I usually wear a 7.5 but ordered in an 8 (I tried them on locally in black) they were a little hard to get on the first time, even had to unbuckle at the ankle. They took no time to break in and talk about durable, the quality is excellent. I stand on my feet all day as a hairstylist and they are super comfy. I have worn these boots doing the hands on renovation of my salon, working all day, and even had a spray paint can leak silver paint all over them, thought they were ruined. I cleaned them off with paint thinner, which made them stiff and white and chalky, but a little saddle soap and they looked even better than new and softer. I constantly get compliments on them, the more distressed they get the better they look.

Great ...
Finally after 1 1/2 years, I've got them. The wait was worthwhile. The boots went on with ease. I wear a 9 1/2, I ordered the 10 and the fit is quite comfortable. I can wear heavy socks and feel unrestricted. I have a thick calf, and I got these on with ease and still have wiggle room to work with. The footbed is cushioned and therefore very soft. I did the plastic bag trick and my feet slid in with ease. Now eying the stonewash for something different! Ladies, this is a great ... last you for years to come. Enjoy!

MUST HAVE BOOTS!
I own these boots in slate, and I wear them ALL the time! They go with everything and look so stylish and beautiful. There was a brief breaking in period with these, but now they fit like a dream and are sooo comfortable. I love FRYE, and these boots live up to the quality and style that you would expect from Frye. I get compliments galore on these boots! I don't think I could live without them.

Wonderful shoes
I was so nervous when I tried on this pair of boots. Almost all previous reviews have told me that how hard it is to pull it on. So I carefully sat down and set aside 5 mins to pull it on. But wow! You just can't image how easy it is to pull it on, much easier than UGGs, than boots with side zip, easier than any other boots I've ever tried. The amazing part is that the shoes won't slip once it is on. I ordered size 6, my normal shoe size, and it is perfect fit. The leather is so soft and it can't support it itself if you let it stand on its own. But when it is on you, it won't slouch around your ankle like other boots. If you like slouch style, you might just play with it since leather is buttery like material. I just don't wanna mess with it and like the way it is now. The color I got is dark brown, it is similar as the picture in website, just a little darker. It is an absolutely pair of low key but high quality boots. Now I am eyeing on other FRYE boots, just can't be satisfied with the fact that I am only owning one pair of boots from FRYE!

So comfortable!
I love these boots so much. They don't need any breaking in - I wore them all over downtown Denver in the snow and they were incredibly comfortable! They also look cute - a little wide in the leg, but I tucked in my jeans and they were perfect. These were my first Frye boots, and I will definitely be buying Frye again the next time I need boots!

Great Boots!!
I have been searching for the perfect boots and I have finally found them!! I love these boots!! I just got them and they are pretty comfortable, but I think, after reading other reviews, that they will continue to get more comfy as they get broken in. They do feel like they may run a half size too small. They just feel a little snug in the heel. I think it might be that they feel "short" because the heel is more narrow than some other boots I had tried on. I do recommend these boots!

Awesome quality ...
These boots are absolutely gorgeous in person. The weathered gray color is great and the leather is supple and rich. I wear a narrow width shoe so unfortunately these were too wide for me and I had to return. The quest continues...

always love fryes
as soon as i saw this ... knew i had to have them...i went with the brown thinking that they would last longer fashion wise than some of the other colors. The boots fit well and run true to size. They (as fryes normally are) a bit stiff in the foot, but the slouchy calf portion is really comfortable and easy to pull on over skinny jeans. Really well made. Get many compliments!

These boots are beautiful BUT...
These boots are absolutely beautiful. After a year of lusting after them, I finally received them in the mail yesterday. The leather already has a worn in look and feel to it, and I fell immediately fell in love with them........ until I tried to put them on my feet. This is my second pair of Frye's. I also own the Paige Tall Riding in a size 8, which was a perfect fit for me from day one. After reading other customer reviews, I ordered the Veronica Slouch in an 8.5. When I tried to put them on, I had a very difficult time shoving my heel into the ... Once I got them on, I could feel my toes beginning to fall asleep. The problem with these boots isn't in the length, it's in the tightness of the ... around the bones in the top of the foot (this is also what causes difficulty in putting them on). The strap is adjustable, but it's purely decorative. I wore them around the house for a couple of hours last night hoping the leather would stretch a little bit. I haven't decided yet whether I will return them or keep them and hope they will stretch out with wear. I really wanted to love these boots, but they may have to go back.

wide calf boots - reviews

About the Sizing. . .This is for any of you out there wondering about which size to get.

Veronica SlouchI love these boots! Overall, a great ...

buy these bootsMy husband bought me these boots 6 years ago in the slate.

Enjoy!

MUST HAVE BOOTS!I own these boots in slate, and I wear them ALL the time!

Wonderful shoesI was so nervous when I tried on this pair of boots.

So comfortable!I love these boots so much.
