Great for small calves and ankles I got these boots in black. They are true to size and very versatile. You can lace or zip them. I put them on, laced them to where I wanted and now just use the zipper. The only issue is that it is small in the ankle which makes it harder to get your foot into the ... am happy that the ankle is small otherwise I really don't like it when there is extra room in that area, it looks and feels bad. I still have room to fit a pair of jeans in the boots and I am sure if you have slightly larger calves you can still make it work by loosening the laces. I should mention that the boots came up a little higher than I expected initially. I think I was looking at too many different pairs and most were shorter than these. You can get a little bunching at the top of the ... if you wear jeans that aren't snug down to your ankle. I don't mind it though. I would not recommend these boots to someone with large ankles. They do start to look distressed after frequent wear but it works with the style of these boots (at least in black). Happy shopping!
surprisingly comfortable this shoe definitely runs on the small side - I am normally an 8, but the 8 was so narrow through the toe box that when I put socks on and stood in the ... could feel all my toe bones jammed together and could envision the pain that my little toes would suffer if I attempted to wear my usual size. However, an exchange for a half size up seems to have totally solved the issue. And, these boots are surprisingly comfortable! I have a busy life and spend most days running from one place to another, on pavement and in the country, lots of walking around - and I can say, these boots were comfortable from day one (in a half size up). Maybe they will surprise me with how well they wear also :) All in all, not a bad pair of boots for the price - decently functional and not bad looking.

Amazing Frye Engineer ... I love, love, love these ... They are exactly as I was hoping they would be. This was my first time ordering shoes online and wasn't sure what to do about sizing. I decided to go a 1/2 size up after looking at reviews and am really glad I did. The leather is fantastic, not quite brown or black, but I know it's going to wear in really well. I also have a larger calf and have had no problem with these ... These ... were made for some kick- a "censored" stompin'!

I was nervous about buying shoes online when I've never tried them on, so I went to the nearest store that sold Frye ... tried on a similar pair. I have to say, it was the most helpful thing I did. Normally I wear about a 7.5 and occasionally an 8. I decided to get an 8 from Piperlime since they seemed to run small in the store. The toe box is much shorter than other styles of Frye ... (which was actually what I was looking for) and the shaft hits an inch or so below mid calf. When I made the commitment and bought the ... stupidly excited to see them at my door. But when I put them on, I found them to be a bit looser in the instep than I would have liked. Fearing I made a mistake, I called a dealer for advice. Many of the reviews on here say they take time to 'break in' and 'stretch out,' which is really code for "I got huge blisters but I love them now!" Frye's are supposed to be a loose fitting ... dealer's advice was to put in a pair of insoles. Best. Advice. Ever. They fit perfectly now. And after wearing them for two weeks, I haven't yet had a blister and don't think I'll see one in the future. Beautiful deep brown color, incredible quality leather, trustworthy name, and a great style. Buy these ...
These are classic! Love these ... tried another pair of Frye ... rode up to my upper calf and they ran small, plus they were tight. These Engineer 12R's are awesome, I was able to slide right into them and they wear great. I haven't had any signs of blisters, as I've worn them for a couple weeks and you can wear them with jeans, casual pants, dresses or skirts. I would say you'd love them!!! Big Attitude in a Little ... I was hesitant to purchase these. Big purchase for a small, less than mid calf ... - but they are gorgeous! SO much attitude in a small package. I am 5 foot nothing and they are perfect for a shorter leg - for the petite ladies, you will not lose yourself in this ... got the dark brown and the picture is very true to color (vintage/worn). The leather is pretty tight, but with any good ... guarantee personality with wear.

Amazing. These are my first pair of Frye boots but certainly not my last!! I've had these since summer and they are my most favorite boots ever! When I received them they were a little more cowgirl than I had hoped but I fell in love with them anyway! I got them in the Dark Brown color and they are really rugged looking!! Perfect height they hit mid calf and you can dress them up or down depending on your style! Defiantly an all year-round ... I've gotten so many compliments on them and I feel like I can conquer the world in them! You defiantly get what you pay for and I certainly wouldn't think twice about buying another pair of Frye boots!

Best purchase of 2010 I've wanted a pair of well made, stylish "cowboy" boots forever, and I turned to Frye based on a recommendation from a close friend who I would consider to be an expert in all things boots. I bought this pair because I liked the height and the price was in my range. I'm an 8 to 8.5, so I originally ordered an 8. They were HUGE! So I exchanged them for 7.5, and the fit is just right. I definitely recommend going a half size smaller at least. I really do love these boots, and I'm looking forward to wearing them regularly for the next 20 years -- because I know they'll last!
I can''t stop wearing these boots! These boots are the best! I've been wearing them every day since I received them two weeks ago. I've been planning my wardrobe and outfits around these boots because I love wearing them so much! I even bought a pair of Gap 1969 Skinny Jeans to wear with these boots and I so love them together. I normally wear a 5 1/2 shoe size and wanted to order the Harness 12R in a 5 but they don't make it in that size. So I went ahead with the 5 1/2 even though everybody says it runs a half size too large. Well, it was too loose in the heel area, but with thick socks it felt just fine. The toebox started off a little tight but it loosened up a little each day and now it's perfect. I highly recommend getting a ... jack as it makes removing these boots incredibly easy. What's a ... jack you ask? A ... jack is a little wooden device where you just stick the back of your heel into a rounded cutout and then you ease your foot out of the ... It's super easy to use - no struggling, sweating or swearing as you remove your ... purchased mine at the local shoe repair store but [...] sells it too.
Love These Boots! These boots are great. I bought them about two weeks ago and have already received many compliments. They do fit a little big, but I wear somewhat thick socks with them and they feel fine. The boots are comfortable, and it only took a few hours of wear to break them in. The leather is very soft and I love the color. I like wearing the boots with jeans and sundresses. I am now a fan of Frye!!!
cool boots Love these cool boots. Had to try on 10 and 91/2 to decide on the size. I have size 10 and that was definitely too big. Kept the 91/2 eventhough a bit tight in the width~believing it will strech. Had a hard time with the quality. I had to exchange them several times because each pair had some defects. Would recomend the boots, but order your size and a half size smaller to compare. Overall I would recomend the boots.
Impressive These boots are great! I would recommend to anyone. I'm saying normal width, true to size, but they are a smidge roomy. And, I have pretty big calves, so I was concerned after reading these reviews about needing assistance to get the ... off.... no fear. The calf area had plenty of room and there is no problem getting on or off. LOVE THEM!

3rd Time''s a Charm I am a size 8 but ordered a half size down after reading other reviews, size 7.5 was tight and I struggled even getting my foot in the ... returned them and got the size 8, which fit perfectly but I was surprised by what a light brown/orangish the boots turned out to be. They looked nothing like the Dark Brown Crazy Horse pictures on [@]. Plus they were way too distressed for my taste. The last pair of 8's I received are still lighter than I expected but were a much better finish. I was so confused that I went to [...] website and saw that their photo looked just like the boots I had gotten! Don't get me wrong, I love the boots - great quality- and [...] was very helpful, but it would be nice to know what you are ordering. My advice, stick to your normal size unless you have narrow feet & check out [...] for a better idea of the Dark Brown Crazy Horse color.
great ... Love this ... fits really well (I did order a half size down), and is neither too wide or too narrow in the calf. It is slightly loose in the heel, though. The cognac color is beautiful. I've been wearing the ... leggings or with jeans.
yeehaw I had a hard time getting them on because of my heel. Once on the heel is a little loose and the toe area a little tight. I usually order extended calf sizes and these fit really nice. The leather looks better once you actually see it.
